Breckenridge, Colorado is set to host the International Snow Sculpture Championships, when sixteen teams from around the world hand-carve enormous works of art from a 12-foot-tall, 20-ton block of machine-made Colorado snow. The 2014 roster includes past medalists as well as new teams to the event.

Catalonia-Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain-Wales, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Mongolia (team 2), Mongolia Munkh-Erdene (team 1), Russia, USA-Colorado/Black Forest, USA-Colorado/Breckenridge, USA-Wisconsin and USA-Vermont.
This free event kicks off Jan. 21, 2014. Competition concludes Jan. 25, with sculptures on display (weather permitting) through Feb. 2, 2014. in the heart of Breckenridge. Both weekends, check out the new photo workshops, which offer tips and tricks to shooting in the snow.
Teams are chosen based on past performances, team resume, submission sketches and overall sculpting experience. Throughout the five-day competition (65 hours), each team will create a massive 3-D work of art that is chiseled away from a 12-foot-tall, 20-ton block of machine-made Colorado snow. The artists accomplish this without the use of power tools, internal support structures or colorants. At the end of the five-day event a Gold, Silver and Bronze prize will be awarded to the top three teams as well as Artists’ Choice. There will also be a chance for the pubic to vote on their favorites in two categories, People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice awards.

Snow artists from around the world will compete Jan. 21 through Jan. 25, 2014 in Breckenridge, Colo. at the International Snow Sculpture Championships. Sculptures, which remain on display through Feb. 2, 2014, start as 12-foot-tall, 20-ton blocks of snow. Teams from all over the world will compete and using only hand tools, artists achieve finished pieces across five days (65 hours) of sculpting in this one of a kind event. Weather permitting the snow sculptures will stay up until the night of Sunday, February 2, 2014 until approx. 9pm and then they will disappear under the darkness of night- just as magically as they appeared!
