Fourth of July in #Breckenridge

And you thought the scenery couldn’t get any more beautiful.  Well, this ongoing parade of amazement is just what Breckenridge does.   It amazes.  The photo above is from the International Snow Sculpture Championships, and you guessed it, they are held in Breckenridge, Colorado.  And they are coming up soon! 

Stomping Week: 1/19/2015 – 1/23/2015    

This is where the giant blocks of ice are built from which the sculptures will be carved.  This is done prior to the snow sculpture artists’ arrival so it is really a town effort, and volunteers are needed.  You can call Heather Bridges, Chief of Volunteers at 970.547.3100 x3 to do a bit of stomping yourself.

The actual competition beings on Tues. Jan. 27th and the artists start with 12+ foot tall blocks of ice that weigh over 20 tons.  Teams come from all over the world, and use all five days (65 total hours) to create their stunning masterpieces.  The awards ceremony is Saturday, January 31, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.

Snow Sculpture Viewing Week (weather permitting): 1/31/2015 – 2/8/2015

Visitors are welcome any time, actually, but the finished sculptures remain up for a week so people can take photos of the finished art.  At 9pm on Feb. 8th, the exhibit closes and the sculptures magically disappear, only to be recreated as something new and stunning the next year!
