Floating, gliding, carving, dancing, flying, soaring, exulting in the glistening powder. Boarders and skiers alike are rejoicing in the pure joy of the Breckenridge Mountains covered in 176 inches of powder so far this year. And on the days Heaven is not blessing us with more of these gorgeous snowflakes, the sun is bouncing off the snow, reflecting its warm brilliance so that in the same day you ski, you can bask in the sun beside a heated salt water pool or jacuzzi at the base of the mountain.
The joy of Breckenridge penetrates into the soul of anyone who experiences it, and when the vacation is over, they leave a piece of themselves behind but carry the memories made there for a lifetime. You just can’t make this stuff up. But apparently the Norwegians did, because Ullr (pronounced Oool-er) was the winter god in Norse mythology. And Ullr had a genealogy – no identity crisis for him. He was the son of Sif and the stepson of Thor, the “God of Thunder.” And when asked what his hobbies were for the Norse dating site “Jeg Elsker Deg” , he replied that he loved the cold, and traveling around the country on his skis or skates. Now that’s a tough date to keep up with, but his adventurous spirit, love of the outdoors and great snow embody what people love about Breckenridge. Great outdoor adventures, breathtaking scenery, and lots of outdoor fun!

And you thought the scenery couldn’t get any more beautiful. Well, this ongoing parade of amazement is just what Breckenridge does. It amazes. The photo above is from the International Snow Sculpture Championships, and you guessed it, they are held in Breckenridge, Colorado. And they are coming up soon!
Stomping Week: 1/19/2015 – 1/23/2015
This is where the giant blocks of ice are built from which the sculptures will be carved. This is done prior to the snow sculpture artists’ arrival so it is really a town effort, and volunteers are needed. You can call Heather Bridges, Chief of Volunteers at 970.547.3100 x3 to do a bit of stomping yourself.
The actual competition beings on Tues. Jan. 27th and the artists start with 12+ foot tall blocks of ice that weigh over 20 tons. Teams come from all over the world, and use all five days (65 total hours) to create their stunning masterpieces. The awards ceremony is Saturday, January 31, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
Snow Sculpture Viewing Week (weather permitting): 1/31/2015 – 2/8/2015
Visitors are welcome any time, actually, but the finished sculptures remain up for a week so people can take photos of the finished art. At 9pm on Feb. 8th, the exhibit closes and the sculptures magically disappear, only to be recreated as something new and stunning the next year!
There really is always something magical going on in Breckenridge. It is just an amazing town with amazing people. The quaint, historic Victorian town began as a mining town when gold was found along the Blue River in 1859. The town and population steadily grew until 1887 when “Tom’s Baby,” a 13.5-pound gold nugget was discovered near Breckenridge, and within two years, the town’s population had exploded into the thousands.
During World War II the town dwindled in population until 1961 when the Breckenridge Ski Area opened on Peak 8. The town was back on the move. At present, five peaks are now skiable – Peaks 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 with over 4,000 acres of winter wonderland. Still, the town retains its historic charm and glories in being surrounded by the majestic views of the Rocky Mountains. World class restaurants, boutique shopping, art, history, four season sports including biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, skiing, and more make Breckenridge the place to be no matter what the season. Away from it all, but having it all, there is no better place to call home.
If you don’t have a place to call home away from home in Breckenridge, you really should consider fractional real estate. As you know, real estate is fairly pricey in Summit County, and understandably so, as it is pretty close to heaven. It doesn’t mean that you can’t have a place to call home though. Fractional real estate gives you all of the benefits of home ownership, at a fraction of the price. It is not a time share. You have a deed and a mortgage. But you don’t have the hassle of repairs, maintenance, or time when you have a big mortgage and the fabulous second home is sitting empty. What you do have is all of the comfort of home, fully furnished and fully equipped luxury condos with five-star hotel amenities. What’s not to love?
If you are already in love with Breckenridge, it is time to call it home. Get ready for the ski season by locking in your home away from home. Contact Senior Broker Brent Henry for a no-hassle, no-obligation complimentary consultation at 970-485-2117 or simply fill out the convenient form below.
